What they taste is a yogurt that is beautifully creamy, almost like pudding, thanks to the superior creaminess of sheep’s milk. The yogurt is mild but naturally sweet, and it’s pure and fresh as can be, because it's made in small batches right on the farm.
Did you know that sheep’s milk products are seasonal? Sheep produce milk for only 7 to 8 months of the year, so these dairy products are like strawberries in June or pumpkins in the fall… get ‘em while you can!
Dairy sheep produce creamy, nutritionally dense milk that makes delicious yogurt and other products, but dairy sheep are also more docile and curious around people than other sheep breeds. Farmers who raise dairy sheep can get to know their ewes and rams over the years, and build a strong and vibrant flock over time.
So we committed to sheep dairying (and each other) and a few years later came to the Hudson Valley of New York to establish Willow Pond Sheep Farm on land owned by Carrie's parents. We raise East Friesian/Lacaune dairy sheep on 65 acres and we are currently the only commercial sheep dairy in the Hudson Valley. Our flocks rotationally graze lush pastures in the Summer, enjoy New York state hay in the winter, and we never use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We make our dairy products in our farmstead creamery.
