We set out to create a vegan caramel nut butter so that our vegan and lactose-intolerant  friends could enjoy the uniquely delicious, sweet creaminess of caramel. After years of  research and experimentation, we had our “eureka moment” when we combined coconut  nectar, maple and vanilla, which converge to create a rich, toasty caramel flavor that is  100% vegan and free of refined sugars. Handcrafted from heirloom Mission almonds,  Organic cashews, Organic maple syrup, Organic coconut nectar, vanilla, and a touch of  Jacobsen sea salt, Vanilla Caramel Almond & Cashew Butter is the sweet-leaning nut  butter you’ve been looking for, but only 2 g of added low-glycemic sugar per serving. We  love this nut butter on slices of apples or pears, spread thickly on warm toast, in oatmeal,  and of course, as a dip for our favorite dark chocolate bars.  

They might be the best-tasting almonds in the world, but Mission almonds are also  nutrition powerhouses, offering vitamin E, magnesium, and 20% more protein than other almond varieties. In addition, they require less water for cultivation, making them a more  environmentally sustainable choice. Unlike many almond butter makers out there, we mill  our almonds with their anti-inflammatory skins intact, further boosting their antioxidants  and heart-healthy fiber in our nut butters.  

We've sampled cashews from all over, and these Certified Organic, fair-labor-certified  cashews from a community of growers in Vietnam are the best we have ever tasted. In  addition to their uniquely delicious flavor and texture, cashews are also great sources of  heart-healthy fats, protein, and anti-inflammatory minerals. Specifically, the magnesium in  cashews has been shown to help with nerve function, improve sleep quality, and dampen  symptoms of anxiety.

Mark and Megan Overbay have long been passionate about making delicious food  centered around culinary craft, integrity, and sustainability. The inspiration for doing so  through nut butter originated from Mark’s experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in  Zimbabwe, where he missed his favorite food – peanut butter – and decided to make his  own. By hand crushing locally grown peanuts and mixing in salt, honey and coconut oil, he  made one of the best things he’d ever tasted. Back in Durham, North Carolina, he and his  wife, Megan, who had already built a local following for her homemade energy bars,  wanted to share that small-batch, handcrafted approach to food with others, and by doing  so, build a business based on culinary craft, integrity, and sustainability. Big Spoon  Roasters launched their lines of small-batch, handmade nut butters and snack bars in  January 2011.
