Marisa’s dairy journey began at 15 as a farmhand in Southern Vermont, eventually leading her to found Ploughgate Creamery at 23. She became one of the first producers to work with Jasper Hill Creamery, with her award-winning cheeses still produced today. In 2012, she expanded Ploughgate into cultured butter, focusing on small-batch, hand-crafted production. As demand grew, she partnered with Mike Scheps of Maplebrook Farm in 2022 to expand while maintaining the brand’s artisan quality. Their long-standing friendship and shared passion for dairy continue to inspire Marisa’s work and product development.
